SLAS-Eccles Institute Conference Access Award

The Society for Latin American Studies (SLAS) is pleased to invite applications for the SLAS-Eccles Institute Conference Access Award. There are four awards of £500 available. The fund is made possible through the generous support of The Eccles Institute for the Americas and Oceania at the British Library.

.

This award is specifically designed to support SLAS members who lack institutional or personal sources of income to attend the SLAS Annual Conference. By reducing the financial burden of attendance, this initiative aims to ensure a diverse and inclusive representation of scholars within our UK Latin American Studies community.

The funding is intended to cover:

  • The full cost of the Conference registration fee

  • A contribution toward travel and/or accommodation costs.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this award, applicants must:

1. Be a current member of SLAS at the time of application.

2. Be registered to present a paper, organise a panel, or act as a discussant at the upcoming SLAS Annual Conference.

3. Confirm a lack of access to alternative funding.

We particularly welcome applications from independent scholars, researchers on precarious or short-term contracts, and those from underrepresented backgrounds in the field. Postgraduates and postdoctoral scholars are not eligible to apply; they should instead apply through the Postgraduate and Postdoctoral SLAS Conference Grant.
