
About PILAS

PILAS (Postgraduates in Latin American Studies) is the postgraduate affiliate of the Society for Latin American Studies (SLAS). PILAS is run by and for postgraduate students whose work, in any academic discipline, is about Latin America. Based in the United Kingdom, PILAS is dedicated to fostering an interactive, supportive community for postgraduate members of SLAS.
Aims and Objectives

Work with the SLAS committee and advise on matters that directly impact PG students.

Continue to grow the visibility of PILAS.

Offer an accessible and supportive community to PG students.

Run events for PG students.
Throughout the year we provide a space for students to meet, seek advice, develop new skills, and share their research by holding workshops, writing sessions and a conference. By becoming a student member of SLAS, you automatically become a member of PILAS. For information on SLAS membership, click here.
The PILAS 2026 Conference will be on the 7th and 8th of April at the University of Leeds.
