​For the first time, PILAS is pleased to announce its Call for Short Films as part of the PILAS 2026 conference, “Future Archives: Forging the Next Generation of Latin American Studies.”

 

We invite postgraduate researchers, filmmakers, and artists based in the UK whose audiovisual work focuses on Latin America to submit short film projects of up to 40 minutes that engage with Latin American cultures and themes such as identity, memory, landscape, politics, archives, and related topics. We are also particularly interested in projects that reflect transnational connections or diasporic experiences within Latin American communities.

 

The call is open to projects across a range of genres and formats, including fiction, documentary, non-fiction, animation, experimental works, and others. Through this call, we aim to create a space for the exchange of experiences around knowledge production beyond the written text, and to incorporate the moving image as a means of disseminating Latin American scholarship beyond the region.

Submissions Guidelines

​

Applicants are required to include a private preview link (e.g. Vimeo, YouTube, or similar platforms), protected by a password, providing access to the full short film as part of their submission. The link will be used exclusively for review purposes and must not be limited to a teaser or trailer.

Selected projects will be eligible to receive up to £150 to support expenses related to presenting their work in person at the opening of the PILAS Conference. Eligible expenses include accommodation and transport, and will be reimbursed upon submission of the corresponding receipts.
